Flume Trail

In Tahoe for the week, took on the Flume Trail on Lihan's recommendation - was not quite prepared for the 4 miles of continuous climbing on a mountain bike. I mean, I knew we would be on mountain bikes, but it didn't quite set in that mountain biking on sand != road biking. Needless to say, the first 4 miles were rather painful - witness my face at one of our many rest breaks.

After you hit the flume, it's pretty much clear sailing. You've got Lake Tahoe on your left, and its a single-track flat/descent the whole way down. Awesome. Definitely recommended, just be mentally prepared that the first part is all uphill, in the sand, all the way. We saw an entire family turn back even though they'd completed most of the tough bits.

It's great to be able to take off and just be outdoors all day. We were definitely pooped once the ride was over, and it was all we could do to drag ourselves to the closest Mexican restaurant, and order some margaritas. Then we got back to the house and I promptly passed out on the bed for the next three hours. Not a lot of productive essay writing accomplished then....
