No, not trying to be rude - its Swedish for speedplay and is a form of conditioning which puts stress mainly on the aerobic energy system due to the continuous nature of the exercise. The difference between this type of training and continuous training is that the intensity or speed of the exercise varies, meaning that aerobic and anaerobic systems can be put under stress. Most fartlek sessions last a minimum of 45 minutes and can vary from aerobic walking to anaerobic sprinting. Fartlek training is generally associated with running, but can include almost any kind of exercise.
We had a lovely fartlek session last night in San Francisco - since I have a work event this evening and will miss the TNT practice tonight. The SF group is definitely a lot more hard core than my SV group - chalk it up to living in the suburbs and having a higher average age among participants I'm guessing. Great workout though.
Donation shout outs to: Chai, Kristie G, Molly P and Patti K. Thanks all! Getting closer and closer to the $3,000.
